Seminar Description:
Two for the price of one! This seminar features two leading thinkers in their respective fields: Steve Krug, the author of the best-selling Web usability book, Don’t Make Me Think!, and Lou Rosenfeld, author of Information Architecture for the World Wide Web.
Part 1: Search Analytics for Your Site: A Brief Introduction (Lou Rosenfeld)
Any organization that has a searchable web site or intranet is sitting on top of hugely valuable and usually underexploited data: logs of search queries that capture what users want, what their most important needs are, and how well the site is performing in matching users with the information they need. Search queries are gold: they are real data that show us exactly what users are searching for in their own words.
Search analytics--the exploration and evaluation of what users are searching for--is a fantastic diagnostic tool to improve your site's search, navigation, metadata, content, and ultimately its strategy. In this brief seminar, Lou Rosenfeld will introduce search analytics and demonstrate its benefits through examples and a group exercise.
What you'll learn:
- Basic search log anatomy
- To better understand your site's users and what they want
- New ways to diagnose your site's problems and some concrete ways to fix them
- Where to learn more
Who should attend:
- Information architects
- Content managers, authors, and technical communicators
- Webmasters
- Interaction designers
- Site managers and strategists
Part 2: Don't Make Me Think -- The Web Usability Workshop (Steve Krug)
Expanding on the topics in his best-selling Web usability book, this workshop will teach you how to recognize and solve the usability problems in your own site, and how to make low-cost/no-cost testing an everyday part of your company's design process. The day includes a live usability test and expert reviews of a number of websites using URLs submitted by attendees--perhaps even your own.
Class Format
